Course Overview

Security Essentials—The Security Essentials course explores security concepts and implementation of security as it applies to LANs and WANs. Topics include cryptography, security standards and protocols, authorization and access methods, intrusion detection, infrastructure design, and security on the internet

Throughout the course, each chapter includes exercises, a lab, and a practice quiz. Users should complete the exercises and activities for each lesson to ensure mastery. Each chapter’s content is supplemented with the following components:

  • Objective

  • Overview

  • Contents

  • Exercise

  • Quiz

This course is self-paced and must be completed within 90 days of the start date. The grade is pass/fail.

Prerequisites

  • Basic computer literacy course
  • Basic networking knowledge

System Requirements

  • Access to a computer connected to the Internet.
  • Windows 95, NT or Mac OS 7.5 or higher.
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
  • Macromedia Flash Player (current version with all patches).
  • Macromedia Shockwave Player (current version with all patches).
  • Minimum 486 or Pentium Processor with minimum 12 MB RAM, or 68040 with minimum 12 MB RAM.
  • Display minimum resolution 800x600 at 256 colors.
  • Sound Card.
