EDT 598 Developing Classroom Math Discourse: math•ed•ology™
Course Overview The course
objective of Developing Classroom Math Discourse: math•ed•ology™
is to increase the teachers' understanding of the NCTM Teaching Standards
on discourse and their ability to implement these in their math classroom.
Each CD-ROM features video of classroom lessons, expert commentary on
the lessons, examples of student work, focus questions for viewing, and
four areas of self-assessment (Identify, Reflect, Extend, and Apply).
This course uses videos of classroom lessons stored on CD-ROM to stimulate reflection about various issues of teaching mathematics to elementary school children. Although enrolled students may work through the course materials at their own rate, they must set a goal of completion within the semester in which they registered. Instructor Information Throughout the course, enrolled students will be able to request assistance on all course related issues from the assigned instructor (see below). Gary Bitter, PH.D.
